What does this agent do, and when should you use it?
Agent Systems Handbook is an open documentation project from Prompthon Agentic Labs, not a runnable agent. It maps the concepts behind real-world AI agent deployments: agent foundations and mental models, agentic workflows with planning, reflection, tool use and function calling, agent memory and agentic RAG, MCP and A2A protocol interoperability, LangGraph and other frameworks and low-code builders, plus multi-agent orchestration, evaluation, observability, reliability and safety. Content is split across four parallel reading paths — Explorer, Practitioner, Builder and Contributor — aimed at broad understanding, everyday application, hands-on building and editorial contribution respectively, with no required sequence. Articles live in foundations/, patterns/, systems/, ecosystem/ and case-studies/, alongside radar/ trend notes, skills/ practitioner packages, contributor-kit/reference-notes/ and publications/ for outward-facing pieces. The primary reading surface is the live site labs.prompthon.io.
The repository does not execute agents or expose an API; it organizes knowledge into a navigable documentation site. Concretely it ships lab articles under foundations/, patterns/, systems/, ecosystem/ and case-studies/; trend notes in radar/; source examples in lane-local examples/ folders; practitioner skill packages indexed by skills/index.mdx; curated reference notes in contributor-kit/reference-notes/; and publication extensions in publications/ once a lab page is ready for distribution. Reading is routed by intent through reading-paths/explorer.mdx, practitioner.mdx, builder.mdx and contributor.mdx, each describing what a reader gets and where to start. Contribution is governed by CONTRIBUTING.md and contributor-kit/index.mdx, which define templates, review standards and placement rules for articles, notes and code. The README states the content is produced through an AI-native workflow combining AI-assisted drafting, synthesis and iteration with expert guidance and review.
- A student or career switcher who wants a mental model of agent systems before writing any code, following the Explorer path.
- A knowledge worker already using AI tools who wants to pick the right workflows and apply agents to real tasks, following the Practitioner path.
- An engineer choosing an agent framework who needs to weigh LangGraph against hosted builders and low-code platforms.
- A team responsible for shipping agents to production that needs reference material on evaluation, observability, reliability and safety.
- A developer building a portfolio through open-source contribution, submitting articles, radar notes or example projects via the Contributor guide.
How do you install or deploy this agent?
This is a documentation repository, not an installable package. The one documented entry point is the live site:
https://labs.prompthon.io/To read the MDX sources locally (reading-paths/*.mdx, CONTRIBUTING.md, contributor-kit/), clone the repository yourself:
git clone https://github.com/Prompthon-IO/agent-systems-handbook.gitNote: the source does not document how to build or preview the site locally — no Node version, package manager, build command or dev-server command is given. That information is missing and must be confirmed inside the repository.
How do you use this agent?
Start from the live site and pick a reading path: open labs.prompthon.io, choose Explorer, Practitioner, Builder or Contributor based on your goal, and follow that guide's recommended order.
If you have already cloned the repository, open the corresponding MDX file directly:
reading-paths/explorer.mdx
reading-paths/practitioner.mdx
reading-paths/builder.mdx
reading-paths/contributor.mdxIf you plan to contribute, read CONTRIBUTING.md and contributor-kit/index.mdx first, then place your material by type in foundations/, patterns/, systems/, ecosystem/, case-studies/, radar/, skills/, contributor-kit/reference-notes/ or publications/. Report problems through the repository Issues, or join the Discord community linked from the README.
What are this agent's strengths and limitations?
- Four intent-based reading paths (Explorer, Practitioner, Builder, Contributor) let readers with different backgrounds skip material that does not apply to them.
- Coverage runs from agent fundamentals through MCP and A2A interoperability, LangGraph, multi-agent orchestration, evaluation and observability — useful as shared vocabulary for a team.
- A dedicated radar/ section tracks fast-moving topics such as Gemini Interactions API, managed agents and emerging agent runtimes.
- The contribution workflow is public and specified: CONTRIBUTING.md plus contributor-kit define templates, review standards and placement rules.
- The primary reading surface is the hosted site labs.prompthon.io, so no local build is needed to start reading.
- It is a documentation project with no runnable agent implementation, so it cannot be imported as a library or called as a service.
- The license is reported as NOASSERTION, meaning GitHub matched no standard license template; verify terms before commercial use.
- Local build and preview instructions are absent from the source — no Node version, package manager or build command is documented.
- The README states content is AI-assisted and iterated, so technical details should be checked against upstream docs for currency.

How does FollowAgents rate this agent?
Why each dimension lost points
The repository is a handbook plus examples, not an executable Agent product. Example code (e.g., CRM skill) shows approval hashes, high-impact confirmation, dry-run and audit logs—local strengths; but workflows use secrets and a database URL, the Discord announcer has external side effects with no rollback documentation; dependencies are implicit (npm install pg@8, openpyxl) with no lockfile or audit; attribution rests on README branding only. Trust surface is thin, mostly 1, with user_confirmation at 2 because example tests explicitly verify high-impact approval.
Example tests cover specific error codes (FORMULA_INPUT, HIGH_IMPACT_APPROVAL_REQUIRED, DUPLICATE_CONTACT), so failure_messages scores 2; tests and docs are broadly self-consistent, self_consistency 2; but dependency availability lacks lockfiles or install verification, implicit only, so 1.
README clearly segments Explorer/Practitioner/Builder/Contributor audiences and scenarios, audience_and_scenarios 3; capability boundaries are summarized but not itemized, 2; trigger precision (when to use which path) is vague, 1; environment fit mentions multiple frameworks but no concrete matrix, 2.
Information architecture is clear (foundations/patterns/systems), 2; install notes absent, only implicit example deps, 1; naming stability has no versioning convention, 1; examples and partial FAQ present, 2; known limitations barely stated, 1; LICENSE is full CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 but metadata says NOASSERTION—an inconsistency, 2; no changelog/version, 0; maintenance responsibility only best-effort in SECURITY.md, 1.
The handbook is useful for understanding agent systems, output_usability 2; marginal value over generic material exists but is not unique, 2; cost-benefit is reasonable for a reading resource, 2.
Claims are largely narrative with few per-item citations, claim_traceability 1; cross-source corroboration limited, 1; fact/inference separation is not evident, 1.
- This repository is a handbook plus examples, not a deployable Agent product; do not treat example code as production-ready.
- Workflows use secrets and a database connection; the Discord announcer has external side effects with no rollback or failure-recovery documentation.
- LICENSE is CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 but metadata says NOASSERTION; verify licensing before commercial use.
- Dependencies (pg, openpyxl, etc.) have no lockfile or security audit; pin versions before running examples.
- Publisher identity is unverified by the FollowAgents registry; attribution and maintenance responsibility rest on README claims only.
